La empresa de cohetería
modelo ESTES
jugueterias. |

Pablo de Leon and Associates
of Buenos Aires, Argentina, recently celebrated the successful
final testing of the escape tower system for their Gauchito
vehicle. At 100 miles South of Buenos Aires, the half
scale vehicle was tested yielding flawless results. Team
leader, Pablo de Leon, commented that the "successful
separation of the capsule in the event of a launch vehicle
failure was an important achievement." Looking ahead,
a new static test to certify the hybrid engine will take
place next month in the Patagonia, and tests of the capsule
electronic equipment are to follow soon after. Training
and water recovery is planned for early next year. |

The Argentine ANSARI X PRIZE
team, is working to complete the first test of their escape
system. This escape system is designed to lift the crew
capsule to safety in case of malfunction of the main launch
vehicle. The escape system is basically three solid-propellant
rockets attached to a tower at 120 degrees each, on top
of the capsule. In the test, the escape rockets will ignite
and lift the capsule to a safe distance from the launch
rocket. The test will be performed in the Province of
Buenos Aires, in a secure test area. If successful, this
test will allow Pablo de Leon and Associates to continue
development and ensure safer flights tests. |

2001/2002 from the Patagonia
GPS Positioning, and telemetry was transmitted to Earth
every second.
Capsule flights were recorded in real time video and the
images transmitted to Earth.

The Argentine X PRIZE team
of Pablo de Leon and Associates reports progress in its
work towards a new flight test, having started in the
final design of the capsule cockpit. Building of a flight
vehicle/capsule is anticipated to begin shortly; at present
several ergonomic studies are underway to determine how
best to acommodate three persons in the spacecraft (as
required by X PRIZE contest rules).
Testing of the thermal protection system has already been
achieved succesfully. |
